The Centre for Renewable Energy (CoRE) at Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad is an interdisciplinary research and innovation centre dedicated to advancing sustainable and clean energy technologies. Established in 2023, CoRE aims to promote research, education, and industry collaboration in the field of renewable energy and support India’s transition towards a sustainable energy future. The centre focuses on major renewable energy domains including Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Biomass Energy and Hydrogen Energy
CoRE brings together expertise from various engineering and scientific disciplines to develop innovative solutions in energy generation, storage, efficiency, and sustainability. The centre also encourages collaborative projects with industries, government agencies, and academic institutions to address real-world energy challenges.
With a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and technology development, CoRE supports research projects, student training, workshops, and interdisciplinary initiatives that contribute to clean energy advancement and environmental responsibility.
Energy is likely to be considered as the future currency. Various geopolitical issues and India’s large dependence of fossil energy resources from other countries make it mandatory to work in the area of renewable energy, by all available methods such as solar, wind, green hydrogen, biomass, energy management. It is also important to keep sustainability as the central theme. IIT Palakkad has been working on the renewable energy aspects across the departments from its inception on 2015. However, all such activities are to be brought under one roof and the current center on Center of Renewable Energy is formed to give more impetus for the ongoing work as well as to start relevant activities.
